Advent: The Characters of Christmas
The joy and wonder of Christmas are anticipated during Advent.
As you decorate the house, bake cookies, and gather with friends and family, the wonder is palpable. To help you keep your focus on Jesus this Advent, here is an Advent Reading Plan to help.
Explore the characters who make Christmas possible in the Scripture, on the podcast and on the blog. Choose to explore just one or all three.
Advent Reading Guide
Explore the characters of Christmas in the scriptures each day of Advent.
- Mary & Joseph
- Elizabeth & Zechariah
- The Angels & Shepherds
- …and Jesus
Each day, you’ll read the scripture and pray, reflect on a focused thought, and respond to a question. At the end of the day, return to a question to reflect on God’s presence throughout the day.
We call them characters for many reasons. You may know them well, or you may just be getting to know them. Their names are written in the scriptures and help us encounter the birth of Christ over and over again. But, their character, their mental and moral quality, shines in the Christmas story. Who are these characters?
Mary and Joseph, Elizabeth and Zechariah, angels and shepherds, and the central character, Jesus.
Every year, as we prepare to celebrate Christmas, we journey with the prophets and the people around us to the manger. This year, as you journey through Advent and prepare for Christmas, explore the courage of the characters of Christmas.
