“Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. While we were still weak, at the right moment, Christ died for ungodly people.…God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:1-2, 5-6, 8
Prayer for the Day
O God, let the light of your Son shine upon me today. With the light of his unconditional love and presence I don’t have to be anxious for anything. For you hold me in the palm of your hand with a love that will never let me go. You are working for my good and nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate me from your love in Jesus Christ.
No matter what the situation or the circumstances, no matter what the consequences your unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning and as sure as the sunrise. You are all I have, so in you I will place my hope. For you are my Shepherd, I have everything I need. You make me lie down in green pastures. You lead me beside the still waters. You restore my soul. You lead me in paths of righteousness for your name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me and with your rod and your staff you comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies and you anoint my head with oil and my cup overflows. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
With that kind of hope, I pray that you will love me into bearing Son-ripened fruit, the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If I am to live by your Spirit, let me be guided by your Spirit!
For this day and every day I offer myself to you, that all I say and do will bring you glory in the name of Jesus. Amen.
