The Value of…Capacity Building
Capacity building points to the fact that God’s not finished with us yet. We’re still growing in grace.
When we think about building capacity we’re not just talking about helping others develop their capacity. It’s also about our capacity to grow.
The question that emerges is, “Do you have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset?” When we consider capacity building as a value, it is essential to explore the difference between fixed and growth mindsets.
With a fixed mindset, you believe intelligence is static. This leads to people trying to look smart. Because if they’re stuck where they are, and nothing can change, they better be smart.
In a growth mindset, you believe intelligence can be developed. This leads to a desire to learn and therefore a tendency to embrace challenges, and persist when faced with obstacles.
A growth mindset aligns with faith and capacity building.
Values
“The VALUE of…” is podcast series exploring what is important to Christ-centered leaders. Values are more than things we profess. Values are the essential elements that guide a leader’s decisions and actions. They help teams make decisions and know what is important.
Across the next several episodes we’ll dive into questions like:
Why are values important?
What does living into our values look like (and why it’s important)?
What are examples of transformational ministries that can result?
And what adaptive leadership challenges emerge when you’re living and leading from your values.
Capacity Building
This week we’re looking at the value of capacity building. Acts 2:37-42 sets the stage for the conversation. First we’ll look at the differences between a fixed and growth mindset. Then we turn to how individual and community capacity building both have a place in the life of the church.
We’ll share questions to help you explore how your leadership is or isn’t facilitating a growth mindset. Finally, consider how a growth mindset and capacity building are tied to disciple-making.
