Episode 264: Blessed are the Pure in Heart
Leadership and the Beatitudes
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8)
“Blessed are the pure in heart…,” means to be clearly focused, single-minded, and living life in full devotion to God.
In Matthew’s Gospel, the good news to have a pure heart is more than the avoidance of impure thoughts. It is more than being a nice person who says and does the right things. To have a pure heart is to be so single-minded in your devotion to God that you love others as God in Jesus has loved you. You love with agape, not centered in emotion, but centered in a conscious choice to love as you have been loved.
To lead with a pure heart means that you will one will. That your eye is single. You don’t have double vision. The pure in heart love as Jesus loves, and express love through action.
Listen to unpack the full meaning of this beatitude in your life and leadership and join in praying, “Create a pure heart to me, and put a new and right spirit within me” as you journey throughout this week.
