Episode 120:
Four Questions to Ask to Find Meaning From the Storm
May 19, 2020
In the midst of any storm in your life, there are lessons you can learn. Sometimes the lessons are hard. Sometimes the lessons are filled with hope. At other times, the lessons are simply reminders of who and whose you are.
When Sara facilitates the “Dare to Lead” training, she refers to this as the reckoning, rumble, and revolution. It takes courage to look in the mirror to examine the cold, hard facts and answer the questions that invite you to find the meaning from the mess.
Four Questions
The four questions we talk about help you reflect on the emotion, the internal dialogue, the truth, as well as your desire for a brave new ending. In the end, the questions are designed to help you learn from the tough seasons in life.
Tim and Sara share moments during this current storm that were hard and/or messy and how they navigated to a new place.
And even as we share our current “meaning from the mess” moments, we recognize we are not through this current storm. Even as things reopen and we begin to experience some of the things we enjoyed, as a leader, you’re still navigating this storm and will be for the foreseeable future.
Look to Scripture
This series was inspired by one specific scripture. This time, as you read it consider the mess the disciples found themselves in as well as the meaning that emerged afterward.
When the disciples came to Jesus in Matthew 8, here is what we read:
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. (Matthew 8:23-27)
You’ll hear what the disciples did when they were with Jesus in the midst of the storm and our take on how the literal storm they encountered helped them to not only lead well but move into a season of growth.
